Yet another challenge in our series of 10 minute preparedness ideas.  The following is taken from simplyfamilypreparedness.com
1. Create a "Sleep Station"
Create a “station” near where you sleep.  This could be under your bed or in a dresser drawer.  Just make sure you can access it quickly.  Put a few items there that you may need if woken up by an emergency (house fire, or a natural disaster, break in etc).  Consider adding some of the following:
  • Shoes and socks
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Work Gloves
  • Cell phone
  • Extra set of car keys
  • Change of clothing (if needed) and / or jacket
  • Eyeglasses
  • Fire extinguisher
2. Home video inventory

If your home were burglarized, damaged or destroyed by fire or natural disaster, would you be able to prove the value of what was in your home for the insurance company?  Having a video of your home’s contents can make it much more like that you will receive fair compensation from your insurance company when and if needed.  (You should also have a written inventory of high value items).
Today, grab your phone or video camera and spend 10 minutes making a home video inventory.  Here are a few tips:
  • Start at one end of your home and work your way to the other.
  • At the beginning of the video be sure to state the date.
  • Make sure you take closeups of items of high value.  Get product ID#s when you can.
  • Narrate your video.  “This piece of jewelry is worth a lot because…..”  If you know what you paid for something, state it on the video.
  • Once done, store a copy of the inventory in a safe place away from your home (bank, relative etc)
Happy Prepping!
